Guest Bookings
Birmingham Brummies skipper Danny King is a rider in demand right now after coming into top form in the last two to three weeks both in the UK and in Sweden. With fixtures running fast for the Brummies Danny welcomed the opportunity of some guest bookings over the bank holiday weekend as he turned out for Eastbourne on Sunday and Coventry on Monday in the gruelling East Midlands double clash of two meetings in one day.
Danny continued his sparkling form throughout and first of all helped the Eastbourne Eagles to a comfortable 59-34 success over a beleaguered Swindon Robins outfit. King mustered 11 points from five rides and that included two heats wins. The first in heat six was an Eagles 5-1 when he teamed up with Dane Bjarne Pedersen as they achieved a maximum heat win over the Klindt/Darkin pairing. At that stage the Eagles were already 24-12 in front and heading for certain victory. In heat eight Danny chalked up another maximum with Finish Eastbourne star Timo Lahti, although the race was awarded after Swindon rider Cory Gathercole was excluded for falling.
Danny appeared in two far more competitive meetings on August Bank Holiday Monday. He was on parade for an early 11am start at the East of England Showground as he joined forces with the Coventry Bees on his old circuit in their 54-40 defeat. He showed that he still knows the best way around Alwalton with a paid 12 score. Included within that was a scintillating ride in heat six when Danny scorched ahead of three times world champion Nicki Pedersen to beat the Dane by a country mile.
King was also nominated by Bees team manager Alun Rossiter for a heat 14 tactical ride and led for most of the race before disappointingly being reeled in by Panthers Swede and having to settle for second place. The track had slickened off alarmingly by this time after being in a quite heavy state early on and possibly suited Sundstrom more but this was still a thoroughly satisfying return in front of his former bosses and fans.
The Danny King Roadshow moved on to Brandon Stadium, Coventry for Monday evening’s return meeting and there was no letting off the gas for the in-form Kent racer. He matched his double figure paid 12 point return that he achieved in the morning as he helped Coventry to a 49-41 victory to help the Bees play-off aspirations. Included in that were race wins in heats five and 14; the latter when he linked up with Coventry’s Nick Morris for a 5-1 over the Sundstrom/Gomolski pairing that killed off Panthers challenge on the night and possible killed their play hopes with it.
Danny then faced a 6am start on the Tuesday morning to catch a flight to Sweden to star in Dackarna’s crucial away fixture at the Bilterna Arena, home of second placed Piraterna of Motala. There is no rest for a successful International Speedway rider in the sport these days!
