Danny King showed that his recovery from injury is moving ever closer with a much more determined display as Team Great Britain took the first test with an excellent all round 46-44 display against an Australia side who could almost call Poole their “home” track.

Other than a pretty poor first ride in heat two, when although making a decent start, Danny soon found himself at the back after a tough first corner, his other three rides were ultra competitive and well and truly on the pace in a supremely tough and hotly contested affair. Heat 12 was probably the pick of his five paid six score (1,1,2’,1) as he team rode superbly with Chris Harris for a 5-1 over Poole riders Darcy Ward and Davey Watt to bring Team GB back level at 33-33.

Team GB went on from there to secure a 4-2 and two point lead in heat 14 as Danny picked up a third place to support Eddie Kennett’s impressive win, and they never let that go in the final heat with a 3-3 as Harris lead from tapes to flag.

Overall it was a much better night for Danny, and with it some confidence to take into Thursday night’s Birmingham Brummies meeting against the Coventry Bees and Emil Sayfutdinov. Then on Friday 3rd June comes the 2nd Test against Australia (8pm).

Team GB 46 Scott Nicholls 7, Lewis Bridger 1, Tai Woffinden 6+1, Edward Kennett 9, Chris Harris 12, Danny King 5+1 and Bern Barker 6+2

Australia 44 Darcy Ward 8+2, Davey Watt 5+1, Rory Schlein 9, Troy Batchelor 3, Chris Holder 10+1, Jason Doyle 6 and Ty Proctor 3+1
