After all his recent mechanical problems in the UK, the last thing that Danny King needed was an injury but that unfortunately happened at Bydgoszcz
on Easter Bank Holiday Monday in GTZ Grudziadz’s 56-34 defeat in the Polish First Division.

Danny endured a freak accident when his clutch arm snapped whilst trying a practice start ahead of his first race in heat three. His bike reared causing him to fall off the back of his machine and in doing so he landed heavily and awkwardly on the base of his neck/spine.  Obviously in some discomfort out on the track he missed his ride and was excluded under the sports two minute ruling. Speedway riders are a brave bunch however and Danny soldiered on and in fact scored a third place point in heat six for his team. The pain was too much though, and he withdrew from the rest of the meeting and took a trip to a local hospital.

After a trip to hospital in Poland where it was confirmed that he had sustained a fractured C7 vertebrae, Danny flew home to the UK in a neck brace and then attended Hinchingbrook's Hospital in Cambridgeshire where he had further x-rays and a CT scan on his injury. These additional tests revealed more positive news in that the fracture is stable and following advice from a specialist, Danny is confident that he won’t be on the injured list as long as was first feared.

Danny is now undergoing regular physiotherapy to treat his injury in the hope that he can be back and racing as soon as possible. He would also like to thank his family, friends, and fellow riders for their support and good wishes over the past week since the crash.
