It was another good week for Birmingham Brummies last week when they managed another home victory (52-43) over the Belle Vue Aces that was televised live by Sky Sports and they then followed that up with a very well earned match point away at Poole in a 48-42 defeat. Huntingdon based racer Danny King showed good form in both contests as Birmingham continued to enjoy good form during the run-in to the end of the season.

Danny gave his sponsors plenty of television camera time and interview exposure as he top scored against Belle Vue with paid 13 points and indeed was on a maximum going into the nominated heat 15. Unfortunately on that occasion he was beaten into a third place by a spirited Schlein/Hougaard combined 5-1 but it was too late for the Aces who were beaten 52-43 by the confident Brummies. Danny racked up three heats wins and a paid win prior to that. He showed excellent form from the gate and most of his success came down to being swift ahead of coming out of the second bend.

Brummies then showed a lot of courage down on the south coast to pinch a match point from league leaders, Poole Pirates, as they went down narrowly by 48-42. Danny had a decent night with seven points from five rides which included a heat 12 win over the Australian duo of Jason Doyle and Davey Watt for a 3-3 shared heat. Krzysztof Kasprzak had a good night for the Brummies as did the Danish reserves, but there wasn’t quite enough in the Birmingham tank to stop the power of the Chris Holder and Darcy Ward pairing.

Danny now faces three Elite League meetings to complete Brummies competitive season at Lakeside, Wolverhampton and King’s Lynn plus an appearance in Phil Morris’s testimonial meeting at Perry Barr and then home and away Midland Trophy dates with Coventry to round off his season with Birmingham.
