Danny King and his Birmingham Brummies scorched to an impressive 50-43 win over a lacklustre Peterborough Panthers last night and notched up his best score in the process with a superb 13 points from five rides. That also included a nominated heat 15 win over three times world champion Nicki Pedersen which sealed the three match points for Birmingham and gave them the home double over the East Anglian club in 2011.
Danny was fast from the gate all night and had no trouble in winning his first two heats. Danny won his first in heat four pretty much from the gate as all the action developed behind him as Ulrich Ostergaard and Troy Batchelor had a right ding dong of a clash before the Dane claimed the second place for a Brummies 5-1. Another good gate in heat seven ensured Danny stayed in front of a testing Linus Sundstrom for a shared 3-3 race which kept the Brummies narrowly in the lead at 23-19.
Danny then took on Nicki Pedersen three times in the last five races and had to be content with second place in heats 11 and 13. Danny’s other Brummies teammates were also on good form however and they ensured Peterborough were kept at bay despite them gaining a 7-2 race win in heat 13 when he split the duo of Pedersen and Troy Batchelor. The fact that King was right on Pedersen’s silencer for the whole four laps each time gave Birmingham’s fans some optimism going into the final race at 43-38 in the lead.
And they were right to believe as Danny shot from the gate in heat 15 to lead pretty much from tapes to flag and during the process Daniel Nermark battled hard with Pedersen and Batchelor to gain a fine third placed point, a 4-2, and all three match points were Birmingham’s in a 50-43 win for the homesters.
This was a terrific advert for British Elite League speedway, and a real shot in the arm for Danny’s confidence for the rest of the season;
“This was a big meeting for Birmingham and it was a great result for us to get all three points. I was really happy with my bike and set-up tonight and it worked well all night, so overall I’m very happy with how things went”.
Danny next rides for Birmingham as they take on Belle Vue on Monday 15th  August at Perry Barr in live televised Sky Sports Elite League action (7.30pm). After that he heads south to Poole as the Brummies take on the Pirates next Wednesday (17th August 7.30pm).
