Revenge is what Birmingham Brummies wanted and revenge is what they got as they sent Wolverhampton packing with the narrowest of wins, 48-47, on a night of high drama and great racing at Perry Barr. Danny will be pleased that he is starting to find a consistent scoring groove and finished the night as equal top scorer with Claus Vissing on 9+2 (3,1*,3,1*,1). The individual honours overall went to Fast Freddie Lindgren who lived up to his name with a faultless 18 point maximum. For Birmingham, it was all about restricting the remaining Wolves riders from scoring on the night.

Danny started the night with a very good win from the tapes in heat three to lead Tai Woffinden home, with Ben Barker tucking into third place for a 4-2 heat advantage. Danny had to be content with 3rd in heat five as the all the action went on in front of him as Barker tried to hold off Freddie Lindgren and did so until the last lap, the race ending in a 3-3 which left the overall score at 17-13 in Brummies favour.

Heat nine was one of a few “races of the night” as Danny showed great speed and patience as he took the fast starting Peter Karlsson on the last bend of the first lap before darting off into the Midland distance for a fine win. Barker took third and at that stage Birmingham were ten ahead at 33-23. That lead wasn’t to last too long however, and when Danny then shared a 3-3 with Claus Vissing in heat 14 which was won by Woffinden to leave the score at 47-42, Birmingham really needed it as they faced the might of Freddie Lindgren and Peter Karlsson in heat 15.

It was just as well that the Brummies went into this race with a five point cushion as they needed it as the Wolves pairing shot from the gates to leave Danny to pick up the point that ensured victory. Birmingham won the meeting and Wolves stole the match point, a complete reversal of Monday night’s outcome at Monmore Green. Overall they were two cracking West Midlands speedway contests and were a great way to sign off ahead of the Speedway World Cup week where Danny will hope to play his part at some point as a member of the Team GB squad.
