Birmingham Brummies
Birmingham Brummies came within a whisker of pulling off the result of the season as they gave Wolverhampton a rare old shock at Monmore Green before going down by the narrowest of margins, 46-43. Danny was also back to his fighting best racking up a decent score of paid nine (3,1*,2,2) on a track he often rides so well.
The meeting started in great fashion for Danny as he led from the front, ably assisted by Ben Barker in heat three, with all the controversy happening behind them. Both Ludvig Lindgren and Woffinden were excluded for falls and that 5-0 put Birmingham into an early 11-6 lead. A decent paid third in heat seven, this time behind Barker, kept the Brummies in the narrowest of leads at 21-20.
Danny enjoyed a decent battle with Ty Proctor in heat ten as he took second place behind the stylish Freddie Lindgren but with Barker at the back, Wolverhampton were beginning to seize the initiative at 32-27. By the time Danny was out again in heat 14 however, Birmingham were back in the contest and just a point behind. His 3-3 drawn heat which was won by Woffinden, was shared alongside Ulrich Ostergaard and that maintained the Brummies interest going into the final heat where the Wolves just held on. Mighty relief for the Wolverhampton fans who will be wary of the Brummies in the future!
Danny and his team mates were able to leave Monmore Green with their heads held high and as it’s Wolverhampton again on Thursday evening (July 7th) at Perry Barr there is a big chance for quick revenge (tapes up 7.45pm).
Wolverhampton 46 Freddie Lindgren 14, Ty Proctor 6+1, Ludvig Lindgren 3+1, Tai Woffinden 9, Peter Karlsson 10, Tyson Burmeister 1+1 and Ricky Wells 3
Birmingham 43 Krzysztof Kasprzak 10, Kevin Wolbert 4+1, 3, Ben Barker 9+1, Danny King 8+1, Daniel Nermark 4, Ulrich Ostergaard 6+2 and Claus Vissing 2+1
