Birmingham Brummies
Danny King endured a miserable return to his former East of England Showground track as he struggled from the gate and struggled for speed all night as his Birmingham Brummies side slumped to a 37-50 defeat after being in control for much of the meeting.
The Brummies looked on course to produce one of the shocks of the season as they led Peterborough Panthers right up until heat nine with the score at 26-28 at that stage. Brummies looked in control and will indeed feel that they let it slip.
In the early heats Birmingham certainly took a grasp of the greasy conditions far better than the host side but Peterborough eventually gained control to run out victors at around 10.15pm; the meeting being delayed by a succession of crashes including a frightening three rider spill in heat 14. Ironically Danny was taken out of this heat by team manager Graham Drury but that may have been a blessing in disguise. It was certainly a crash Danny didn’t need to be a part of after his recent injury problems, especially with the British Final at Wolverhampton just around the corner and also his selection for the forthcoming test series against the Australians.
A frustrating night for Danny it may have been and his one point (0,1,0,N) is far from the talent he often displays around Alwalton. There will be better rides in the future for the Brummies skipper and maybe it is best that he now turns his attention to riding for his country in Team GB’s test matches against Australia at Poole on Wednesday (1st June) and Lakeside (3rd June).
Peterborough 50 Nicki Pedersen 11+1, Linus Sundström 8+1, Kacper Gomolski 2+2, Krzysztof Buczkowski 10, Troy Batchelor 10, Norbert Kosciuch 9+1 and Dakota North 0Birmingham 37 Krzysztof Kasprzak 7, Kevin Wölbert 0, Ben Barker 10, Daniel King 0, 1, 0, N = 1, Daniel Nermark 6+1, Claus Vissing 2+2 and Ales Dryml 11+1
