Birmingham Brummies
Birmingham Brummies put in a much improved shift of work at Brandon Stadium on Friday night as they went down 56-38 to Coventry Bees, the 2010 Elite League champions. Danny King was back to his best as well as he stormed to 13 points including a tactical-ride four points in heat 7.
Danny started the meeting with an excellent ride in heat three when he passed Bees new signing Kenni Larsen on lap one. With Ben Barker coming in in third place it was just the tonic the Brummies needed at 10-8 down at that point. That win immediately earned Danny a tactical ride nomination in his next ride although he was up against the flying Edward Kennett and Australian whizz kid Nick Morris. A second place and subsequent 5-3 for the Brummies as Ben Barker slotted into third, ensured that the Brummies kept in touch at 26-18 after seven heats.
The meeting however was starting to drift out of Birmingham’s hands by the time heat ten came around but Danny King and Ben Barker then scorched to a 5-1 over Hans Andersen and Richard Sweetman to halt the slide and keep things far more respectable than they ever were at Arlington. Danny and guest Aaron Summers were on the wrong end of a 5-1 in heat 14 which effectively ended the contest. Australian Nick Morris has very little Elite League experience but he showed plenty of muscle in that race to keep Danny at bay.
It was certainly a far better night for Danny (3,4,3,1,2) and he was rewarded with a heat 15 call up where he again beat Hans Andersen (this time to second place) in the nominated race but had no answer to the power of Edward Kennett or Coventry and they notched another 4-2 to leave the end result 18 points in favour of Coventry.
Danny had this to say following his best Brandon performance ever;
“It was a far better night for me and much more like the sort of performance that I know I am capable of delivering. There are still things that I can work on and it will be a busy week in the workshop before we travel to Blunsdon on Thursday to face Swindon”.
After joining the parade of former Fen Tigers at yesterday’s opening Mildenhall meeting against Dudley Heathens, Danny’s attentions now turn to Swindon this Thursday followed by the return at Perry Barr on Friday night (tapes-up 7.30pm).
Coventry 56 Hans Andersen 9, Richard Sweetman 5+2, Ryan Fisher 5+1, Kenni Larsen 8, Edward Kennett 15 (max), Nick Morris (G) 4+1 and Przemyslaw Pawlicki 10+1
Birmingham 38 Krzysztof Kasprzak 9+1, Ales Dryml 2, Ben Barker 7+2, Danny 13, Daniel Nermark 1, Theo Pijper 3 and Aaron Summers (G) 3
