The honeymoon period for Birmingham Brummies in top flight speedway is certainly over after they were dealt a real savage “welcome to the Elite League” blow by Eastbourne Eagles on Saturday night as they were well and truly thrashed by 66-24 at Arlington Stadium.

Nothing went right for the Brummies and Danny on the night as the Eagles took them to task in a big way as Eagles stars Lukas Dryml, Joonas Kylmakorpi and Lewis Bridger all recorded either full or paid maximums. Eastbourne are a far tougher prospect in 2011 than they have been for a few seasons and it will be no surprise if the Eagles remain unbeaten all season at home.

Danny made a couple of decent starts on the night, most notably in heats 3 and 14 but was unable to convert that into race wins. Danny was also sent out in heat 7 on a tactical ride but in that race he tried all he could to pass Lubos Tomicek but to no avail. King and his teammates in reality had no answer to the quicker Eagles riders on the night scoring just four plus one bonus point (1,1,0,1,1*) and it is certainly a meeting to put behind them and focus on the future. Brummies certainly won’t be the last team to get a hammering at Arlington in 2011.

The next stop for Danny is a trip to Poland as his Grudziadz side take on Lotos Gdansk in a Polish Division One fixture. His next Brummies action is on Thursday when the Lakeside Hammers are the visitors to Perry Barr in more Sky Sports Elite League action (tapes-up 7.30pm)

Eastbourne 66 Bjarne Pedersen 8+2, Lukas Dryml 12 (max), Simon Gustafsson 12, Cameron Woodward 6+3, Joonas Kylmakorpi 13+2 (paid max), Lewis Bridger 11+1 (paid max) and Lubos Tomicek (G) 4+2

Birmingham 24 Krzysztof Kasprzak 2+1, Ales Dryml 3, Ben Barker 6, Danny 4+1, Daniel Nermark 4, Kyle Hughes (G) 1 and Sam Masters (G) 4+2
