Birmingham Brummies
Birmingham Speedway welcomed Elite League racing to Perry Barr as well as the Sky Sports cameras for their first meeting proper with Poole Pirates but they were unable to stop the Pirates from heading back down to Dorset with 3 points following a 42-48 defeat.
Danny started extremely well and looked to be the quickest Brummie on show early on as he rattled off confident wins from the gate in both heats three and five and at that point of the meeting it was 15-15 and Birmingham were in with a shout. Danny earned a fortunate second place in heat nine as he missed the gate and had to work hard to keep on the tails of team mate Ben Barker and Pirate Davey Watt. Barker made a great move to take Watt from the back but seemed to be going too fast and paid the price a lap later when he piled into the air fence on the first bend. Watt claimed the win from there on with Danny following home in second.
The Brummies narrowed the deficit to two points (38-40) in heat 13 but in reality they should have been level as Holder sneaked past Daniel Nermark to reduce a home 5-1 advantage to a 4-2. That left pressure on Danny in heat 14 but unfortunately the fast starting Jason Doyle and Swedish reserve Daniel Andersson notched a maximum 5-1 with Danny coming in third to claim the meeting.
Unluckily Danny wasn’t nominated to take the heat 15 nominated riders heat much to the surprise of many at the stadium. His efforts on the night deserved another race, and his popularity is certainly growing amongst the Brummies faithful for his all action efforts on track.
Danny now looks ahead to the weekend and is hopeful of further action in Poland with his new Grudziadz team who will take on Poznan in the first round of Polish Division One meetings on Sunday.
Birmingham 42 Krzysztof Kasprzak 11, Ales Dryml 3, Ben Barker 2, Danny 9, Daniel Nermark 8+2, Dakota North (G) 2+2 and Kevin Wolbert 7+2
Poole 48 Chris Holder 13, Renat Gafurov 4+2, Jason Doyle 12+1, Darcy Ward R/R, Davey Watt 8, Daniel Andersson 10+3 and Kyle Newman 1
