Fancied as one of the pre-meeting favourites to finish on the rostrum; Danny King and Tai Woffinden endured a tough night at a damp Foxhall last night.

In a meeting slightly different to the norm where points are awarded 4,3,2,0 in an attempt to encourage team riding as a pair, King and Woffinden were often on the back foot against their opponents and indeed it seemed early in the meeting that whichever pairing had gates one and three were in the driving seat by the second bend.

There were highlights for the young pairing however as they recorded a 7-2 over Darcy Ward and Troy Batchelor in heat 7 as Danny made an extremely good start and led pretty much from the second bend. Danny made another great start in heat 13 although unfortunately Tai Woffinden came in last, not being able to force his way by the Coventry duo of Ben Barker and Eddie Kennett so that race resulted in a 5-4 to the Bees pairing.

A combined total of 18 points meant a bottom placed finish in the field, and not really the sort of result the duo would have been looking for. The Australian pairing of Rory Schlein and Davey Watt won the meeting and Scott Nicholls scored a maximum but the occasion was a fitting 25 year tribute to the passing of Witches legend Billy Sanders. Danny had this to say after the meeting;

“I had some mechanical problems early on regarding using new oil catchers that I had fitted but once that issue was sorted out, I went a lot better. These meetings are perfect to try out things like this and hopefully I, and Ipswich, will benefit in future meetings now that we have the problem ironed out.”

Following another visit to his physiotherapist for some further work on his shoulder, Danny is next in action later this evening (Friday) at his former track Peterborough and on a circuit that he loves he will be looking for a decent Ipswich team performance at Alwalton against the Panthers (7.30pm).
