Ipswich Witches
After a frustrating week with no racing and his time spent watching Team Great Britain perform admirably in the Speedway World Cup, Danny returned to action on Monday night for the Ipswich Witches in the Sky Sports Elite League at Monmore Green against champions Wolverhampton.
Never the easiest place to be as a visiting rider, Danny had a mixed night against Wolves scoring 8 points as the Witches went down to a heavy 57-38 defeat. Danny didn’t have the best of the starts to the meeting either with a heat 3 exclusion after coming together with Tai Woffinden on the first bend leaving Danny in the dirt and out of contention. So often, first bend incidents at Monmore Green tend to favour the home riders it would seem.
A couple of solid second places followed for Danny, first of all in heat seven when he followed home Nicolai Klindt and subsequently in the tenth heat when he chased home maximum man Freddie Lindgren. By then though the meeting score was 39-21 and already out of the Suffolk’s sides reach.
Danny was awarded a double points tactical ride in heat 12 but he had to be content to follow home Klindt again after the Silkolene racer had led from the front for the first 3 laps. Still a 5-3 heat score in Witches favour (Stachyra was 3rd) stemmed the tide somewhat at 44-33 but unfortunately Danny was on the wrong end of a heat 15 Lindgren/Klindt 5-1 as Witches crashed to a 57-38 final score line.
There is certainly plenty of improvement needed from Danny and his Witches teammates in time for Thursday’s home meeting with the Lakeside Hammers, especially now that Lakeside have dropped Daniel Davidsson in favour of fellow Swede Peter Ljung. The action gets underway at Foxhall at 7.30pm.
