Ipswich Witches
Danny endured a mixed bag of emotions during June 2010 as his domestic club Ipswich Witches continued to struggle in British Speedway. This was especially evident away from Foxhall as defeats were the norm whilst an emotional night at the Sky Sports televised British Final at Wolverhampton saw the Huntingdon based racer grab himself a second reserve berth in the British Grand Prix at Cardiff.
A special report will appear on here in the next few days concerning Danny’s performance in the British Final where he made the Grand Final after needing a run-off victory against Sheffield’s Richard Hall just to get into the meeting proper.
June began with a 40-52 defeat at Poole where Danny managed 6 points (3,0,1,2) before the Witches enjoyed a rare home win over Elite League Champions Wolverhampton. Danny was on top of his game in the home win with 11+1 (3,2,2,1’,3) before hitting another 6 points in the away clash at Belle Vue (F,2,2,2’,0) as the Witches lost narrowly 44-51.
Agonisingly, for the Witches captain and his team they lost by a solitary point in the home meeting with Swindon on the 17th June when Danny scored 11 (3,2,3,3,0) in the painful 46-47 defeat. Belle Vue were repaid on the 24th June as Ipswich overcame the Aces by 51-42 with Danny again hitting a double figure 12 point score (3,3,2,3,1) at home to give the Witches riders and their faithful fans a morale boost. The next night their away woes continued however as they narrowly lost the basement battle 44-52 at Brandon. Danny again notched 6 points (0.3,F,3) during a frustrating evening where Danny suffered an unlucky first bend fall in his 3rd ride that could easily have seen all four riders called back for a re-run.
All in all, Danny’s home form continues to be excellent but his away performances need to be lifted a notch in future months. Ipswich aren’t a million miles away from being a decent team proven by the fact that they rarely get hammered anywhere but frustratingly don’t always have quite enough to win their meetings.
