Ipswich Witches
Danny travelled to probably one of his least favourite circuits on a high after his great form for the Witches against Peterborough over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend. The Arena-Essex Raceway, home of the Lakeside Hammers, is not normally Danny’s or Ipswich’s most profitable away venue although at least on the team front the Witches returned home with a point for their efforts following a narrow 49-43 defeat.
King notched 5 points from four rides but didn’t start the meeting in the greatest of fashion with a fall and exclusion in heat three although he did recover to win heat ten to bring the Witches within four points at 33-29. Not bad considering the score was 26-16 three races before that!
Danny managed a further third placed point in heat 14 to go with the one he achieved in heat 7. The Witches went down 49-43 and scored a lot better than many visiting teams will at Purfleet this season. The Davidsson brothers were rampant for the Hammers but the usual big score from Scott Nicholls and improved form from Olly Allen ensured the Witches got something from the meeting.

The trip to the South Coast for the Witches on Wednesday 7th May to take on the Poole Pirates would have been treated with trepidation by the Ipswich team. Only seven days earlier the Pirates had notched 70 points against Lakeside and without doubt they are a different side to the one that finished bottom of the pile in 2009.
Danny had a reasonable meeting with seven paid eight points from five rides and only him and Scott Nicholls with 13 points offered any resistence to the high flying Pirates who ran out 63-30 winners on the night. Danny managed a couple of second places in heats three and ten but by then Pirates were already 42-18 ahead and the meeting was gone. Scott Nicholls managed a six pointer in heat 11 and Danny was paid for a second place in the nominated heat as 3-3 ensured the Witches limped to a 30 point score. There will be better days ahead for Danny and his team.
